Simple Zahtar-Labneh Dip

You can't get much easier than this for an appetizer. Creamy, tangy labneh (strained whole-milk yogurt) is swirled in a shallow bowl, and then topped with a drizzle of olive oil, a hearty sprinkle of Vanns Zahtar, and a pinch of sea salt. It's cooling and refreshing, wonderful served with crudites or pita bread. Keep Vanns Zahtar on your shelves and labneh in your fridge, and you have an appetizer (or a light lunch) ready to go.

  • Good-quality labneh, or homemade, using the straining technique from homemade labneh recipe, if you can’t find it in a store
  • Vanns Zahtar
  • Good quality extra-virgin olive oil
  • Your choice of Vanns Sea Salt
  • Pita bread, pita cracks, and/or crudites, to serve


  1. Choose your serving dish -- a wide flat bowl works well, as does a plate with a slight lip around the edge.
  2. Using a soup spoon, create a nice mound of labneh in the middle of the dish -- the size will depend on the number of people you’re serving. Use the back of the spoon to swirl the labneh out from the center to the edges of the dish, creating a flat well in the middle, and slight ridges on the edges. Just keep swirling until it looks pretty!
  3. Sprinkle the labneh liberally with Vanns Zahtar and drizzle with olive oil. Sprinkle with Vanns Sea Salt to taste. Serve with pita wedges, pita chips, or crudites.
